Early-Termite Prevention Tips

How to spot early signs and protect your home before damage spreads.

1

Look for Early Warning Signs

Check foundations, trim, and baseboards for mud tubes, hollow-sounding wood, discarded wings, or bubbling paint. Early detection is your best shot at limiting structural damage.

2

Reduce Moisture Around the Home

Fix plumbing leaks, clear gutters, improve soil drainage, and eliminate standing water. Damp soil and wet wood are major termite attractants.

3

Move Wood and Mulch Away From the Foundation

Keep firewood, lumber, cardboard, and heavy mulch at least 12–18 inches away from the exterior walls. Direct wood-to-soil contact makes it easy for termites to reach your home.

4

Seal Gaps and Utility Penetrations

Caulk or seal openings around pipes, cables, bath traps, and crawlspace vents. Small cracks may not stop a colony, but they reduce the number of accessible entry points.

5

Call a Professional

Termites require specialized treatment, not OTC sprays. If you see mud tubes, swarmers, or damaged wood, bring in a licensed termite expert with proven systems (like Sentricon) to fully eliminate the colony.

Termite Control FAQs:

Protecting Your Home From Damage

Do I need a termite inspection first?

Yes. A licensed technician will inspect your home and discuss the best protection plan based on activity, construction type, and surrounding conditions. Click the link for Termite Treatment Signup .

Will you need to drill inside my home?

Sentricon® typically requires no drilling inside living spaces. Stations are placed in the soil around your home and serviced by our technicians throughout the year.

We offer coordination of WDI inspections in certain areas. If you have recently purchased a home or are currently under contract, you may be eligible for an inspection. Please consult with your real estate agent for more information. Contact us to inquire about availability and scheduling.

Do you provide WDO (wood-destroying organism) reports?

What termite solution do you use?

Certified Inspectors

If you are planning on buying or selling a home or commercial property, you will most likely be required to have a wood destroying insect or organism (WDI/WDO) inspection. A properly completed termite and WDO inspection from Green Team will determine whether termites are in fact present, and detail conditions of the property that may be conducive to attracting wood-destroying insects in the future. Plus, if we declare the property termite-free, but termites invade within 92 days of our inspection, we will complete treatments to remove them for no additional charge.

Customized Treatment and Control

At Green Team Pest, we understand that every home and every homeowner’s pest control needs are unique. Before recommending a plan of action, we will meet with you to discuss your specific pest control needs and goals to ensure we only suggest the most effective termite treatment methods possible. We also believe that success is a team effort. In fact, we’re one of the few pest control companies that also educates customers to recognize and remove conditions that invite pest activity — proactively helping you stay bug-free.
